Bosnia and Herzegovina Embassy in Berlin

Embassy of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Berlin, Germany

Overview

The Embassy of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Berlin is the principal diplomatic mission to Germany — a country that hosts one of the largest Bosnian diaspora communities in Europe, estimated at over 200,000 people. Ambassador Damir Arnaut has led the mission since August 2023. The embassy handles bilateral relations, consular services and visa processing, and is supported by a substantial network of three consulates general (Frankfurt, Munich, Stuttgart) and two honorary consulates (Leipzig, Schwäbisch Hall). Germany has been a key partner in Bosnia-Herzegovina's post-war recovery and EU accession process, with significant bilateral ties in trade, development cooperation and cultural exchange.

Bosnia-Herzegovina offers visa-free entry for EU, US, UK, Canadian and Australian citizens for stays up to 90 days within a 180-day period. Holders of valid multiple-entry Schengen visas may also enter for up to 7 days. For longer stays, work or study, contact the consular section. Hours: Monday to Friday 13:00–17:00. Trade & Export Support

Germany is one of Bosnia-Herzegovina's most important trading partners. The embassy promotes bilateral trade, particularly in wood processing, metalworking, automotive components and tourism. The embassy facilitates contacts between German and Bosnian businesses and supports participation in trade fairs.

Business Support

The embassy assists entrepreneurs from both countries with market intelligence, regulatory guidance and introductions to chambers of commerce and government agencies. The Delegation of German Industry and Commerce in Bosnia-Herzegovina (AHK BiH) is a key partner.

Cultural & Educational Programs

The embassy promotes the rich multicultural heritage of Bosnia-Herzegovina — where Ottoman, Austro-Hungarian and Slavic traditions meet — through cultural events, exhibitions, film screenings and academic exchanges. The Goethe-Institut and DAAD programmes foster educational cooperation.

Service Area

The embassy's consular jurisdiction covers Berlin, Brandenburg, Hamburg, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Sachsen-Anhalt and Schleswig-Holstein. The remaining federal states are served by consulates general in Frankfurt (Hesse, Bremen, Lower Saxony, North Rhine-Westphalia), Munich (Bavaria, Saxony, Thuringia) and Stuttgart (Baden-Württemberg, Rhineland-Palatinate, Saarland).
