Overview
The Kansai region — Osaka, Kyoto, Nara, Kobe, Hyogo — is the deeper-Japan part of the trip for many British travellers: Kyoto's temple complexes (Fushimi Inari, Kinkaku-ji, the Gion geisha quarter), Nara's deer park and Tōdai-ji, Himeji Castle, Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park (UNESCO), the floating torii at Miyajima, and the food scene around Osaka's Dotonbori. The British Consulate-General at 3-5-1 Bakuro-machi in Chuo-ku, Osaka, is the consular post for that region — passport renewal, notarial services, emergency assistance for British nationals across Kansai. UK visa applicants resident in western Japan use the same VFS Global UK Visa Application Centre routing as elsewhere in the country, with the Tokyo VAC the principal centre. For full embassy services beyond consular routine, the British Embassy in Tokyo is the lead post. In-person services by appointment via the FCDO website.
